Smart-OeS – a system supporting work management and planning the development of power grids saturated with generation and demand resources

Short description of the project
The subject of the project is the development of the Smart-OeS IT system intended to support the planning of the development and management of the operation of power grids (classic and intelligent) and generation and demand resources (ZWO) connected to these networks. The system will take into account technical and market interdependencies occurring in networks with a high degree of saturation with local generation units, energy storage, infrastructure for electromobility, active loads, etc., taking into account the functional specificity of these networks – different for professional power plants, industrial plants and energy communities (including energy clusters, energy cooperatives, virtual power plants). The overriding feature of the system is to take into account, at each stage of the analysis, the power grid connecting all ZWO into a coherent whole. Appropriately modeled electric-power networks. and appropriate technical and economic analyzes will bring the simulation results as close as possible to the real phenomena occurring in power distribution systems, taking into account technical network limitations and the stochastic nature of the ZWO.

Project goals

Planned project effects
The overriding feature of the system will be to take into account, at each stage of the analysis, the power grid connecting all ZWO into a coherent whole. Appropriately modeled electric-power networks. and appropriate technical and economic analyzes will bring the simulation results as close as possible to the real phenomena occurring in the power plant. distribution systems, taking into account technical network limitations and the stochastic nature of ZWO.
The main tasks to be carried out in the project are:

  1. implementation of the CIM standard enabling the use of a common, standardized network model by various entities;
    development and implementation of a methodology for calculating electricity networks, taking into account new features appearing in a network saturated with sources and installations with different operating characteristics, including energy storage facilities;
  2. development and implementation of ZWO models connected to MV and LV networks. Individual features of the ZWO of smart electricity networks will be taken into account. a new, decentralized model of the electricity market (including energy storage, virtual power plants, electromobility infrastructure, active consumers);
  3. development and implementation of advanced algorithms for functional modules supporting work management and planning the development of electric networks.

  • Stage No. 1
    Development of system architecture. Implementation of the CIM standard in network modeling. Development and implementation of a methodology for calculating power grids saturated with ZWO in states of normal on- and off-grid operation and in disturbance states. Development and implementation of a methodology for analyzing the operational reliability of the power system. Implementation of the calculation methodology in a module supporting the selection of protection and control automation settings.
    Final result of the stage: Smart-OeS computing system in the test version, which enables flow, short-circuit and reliability calculations in ZWO-saturated test networks.
  • Stage No. 2
    Development and implementation of probabilistic ZWO market models, effective algorithms for planned, new, innovative system functionalities, advanced interfaces with a library of reference data. Final result of the stage: A working prototype of the Smart-OeS system, including prototypes of computational modules implementing advanced functionalities of the Smart-OeS system, a database created, a library of reference models, a working user interface and a module for visualizing analysis results.
